Local Love: Ella the Shop

Ok guys.  Seriously, have you been to Ella the shop?  It is the cutest and newest addition to the uptown shopping scene.  It is located on Prince William street just down from Piece O'Cake (fashion and cupcakes?  Yes please!)

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend a private shopping event to kick off their summer sale.  It was a sale with 40% off all their spring and summer stock.  It was a great chance to stock up on those spring/summer items you had been wanting.  Besides shopping there was also wine and cupcakes, what more could a girl ask for?

They also have a fabulous app to buy and sell used clothing and accessories.   Worried about having to meet up when buying or selling?  They make it easy with their Ella closet.  How it works: drop off your item that is being purchased during their business hours and the buyer can stop by at their convenience.  They do charge 20% of your asking price if the item sells, but to me it is worth it!   No more meeting in a parking lot or trying on clothes in the bathroom of Tim Hortons.

Next time you are in uptown Saint John, be sure to stop by and see Kelly and the lovely ladies at Ella.  Guys, looking for a gift for that special girl in your life?  The Ella ladies can help you find the perfect item, and a gift card is always a great idea!  See them for all your back to school shopping and fall fashion needs.  You won't be disappointed!

Thrift Up

Dress - Forever 21 via Thrift Up || Shoes - Kate Spade || Watch - Michael Kors

How adorable is this dress?  I love the ruffle detail and colourful polka dots.  The best part?  This dress was only $5.50!  If you are ever in the St. George area be sure to check out Thrift Up, a local thrift store, with high quality items at great prices.  Also, I am totally in love with these Kate Spade flats I found at Marden's.  The bows are the perfect touch.  Bows and ruffles, yes please.  What details are you drawn to?

Three Times

Dress - Lakefield & Co || Necklace - Stella & Dot || Shoes - c/o Sole Society || Watch - MIchael Kors

This dress is easily my new favorite.  I wore it three times in one week; to my graduation from my masters, to my dance recital and then out to see Riverdance.  Wow what a week, and what a dress!  This seriously is the best dress and here is why: 1.  You can never go wrong with a LBD.  2.  This dress is so comfy I feel like I am wearing pyjamas.  3.  And best of all by purchasing this dress I supported a local company (lakefield & co.) and a local shop (Ella the Shop).  I love being able to support local!  If you haven't checked out Lakefield & Co. be sure to follow them on instagram @lakefield_co.  For all your Lakefield & Co. needs be sure to stop uptown and see the lovely ladies at Ella on Prince William street, and be sure to follow them on instagram for updates @ellatheshop.

Ponytail Mail

My daughter and I go through a lot of hair elastics.  Between both of us in dance class, ponytails for my daughter at school and whenever I need to have my hair out of my face, it feels like we are always looking for an elastic.

These hair ties are handcrafted in Toronto, ON (who doesn't love to support Canadian businesses!).  The soft stretchable elastic won't rip your hair or leave creases in it.  Plus they come in great colours and you can wear them on your wrist as accessories.

I love how soft these elastics are and how easily they go in and around your hair.  The colours are great and can be matched to any outfit!

Ponytail Mail also offers a subscription service which allows you to pick from 5 to 20 hair ties that will be shipped directly to your door every month (or every other month if you prefer).  Not into the subscription thing?  They also offer single hair ties, collections and headbands.  (Note:  They currently only ship within Canada)

Want to win your own package of ponytail mail?  Check my instagram (@sighgushgasp) on Friday for a giveaway!

Try-day Friday

Hat - Lyla & Bo c/o *Ella ||  Tee - *Ella || Jeans - Old Navy || Booties - Guess || Watches - Michael Kors

At Christmas time, Ella ran this super fun 10 days of giveaways where they would hide a gift somewhere in the city and post clues in their Instagram stories.  It was always so fun to see where the gifts were hidden each day.  I was one of the lucky ones to find a gift certificate for this hat (Huge thanks Ella!)  I'm not going to lie when I first got this hat I thought I could never pull it off.  But thanks to Dia&Co. who challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, I put this outfit together last weekend.  At first I wasn't too sure about it, but my daughter kept telling me how much she liked the hat and how pretty I looked (5 year olds are so sweet!).  I definitely think this is an outfit I am going to be wearing again.  I'd love to see you face your fashion fears.  What is the one thing you are afraid to wear and step out of your fashion comfort zone?

Casual Sunday

Top - Vero Moda via The Clothes Mine || Jeans - Yoga Jeans || Boots - Hunter || Necklack - Beck & Boosh || Watch - Michael Kors

Sundays in our house are always so relaxing.  We have a nice easy morning, go to church and then in the afternoon usually curl up and watch a movie or go outside and play.  This past sunday the temperatures were so nice and warm we went public skating and then made a snowman while our little man slept.  Laid back Sunday's are always my favorite.  And with relaxing comes comfortable clothes.  The top I am wearing is from The Clothes Mine here in Saint John.  It is a second hand store with many items that still have tags attached!  When I purchased this piece a couple of weeks ago I didn't realize how quickly this simple striped shirt would become a staple in my wardrobe.  Basics such as this shirt look great with jeans, dress pants or tucked into a skirt!  What are some of your basics and favorite Sunday activities?
